TEXAS SCHOLARS PROGRAM

The Texas Scholars Program recognizes outstanding students who have achieved academic success and provided community service.  In order to become a Texas Scholar, additional courses must be taken and a total of 100 community service hours must be worked by April 1st of your graduating year.

Academic Requirement

  • Complete the Foundation with Endorsement Graduation Program as well as the following:
  • Complete at least two college-level courses or ACHIEVE college readiness through ACT, SAT or TSI.

Community Service Requirements

Community service is an important part of the program as you are encouraged to give your time and effort in order to help people and the environment.  General guidelines for community service are:

  • A total of 100 hours must be completed and approved by April 1st of your graduating year (you may earn more than 25 hours per year to reach your total)
  • It is encouraged to turn in documented hours as soon as they are completed. The Texas Scholars Board will review and apply approved hours to students’ Texas Scholar records from June 1st through April 1st at meetings throughout the school year.
  • No compensation may be received for community service
  • A maximum of 8 volunteer hours per day can be approved
  • Incoming Freshman may begin June 1st; forty hours of the required 100 may be achieved through school-related volunteering
  • Volunteer for non-profit agencies (501 C-3)
  • It is the responsibility of the student to keep up with his/her hours. Please make a copy of your cards prior to turning them in at the counselor’s office.  Your copy of these cards will be a necessary aid for completion of college resume and applications.
  • Service hours need to be submitted during the year they are performed.
  • Service hour updates are on Career Cruising in the document library. See a counselor if you need a Career Cruising login.

For questions regarding the Texas Scholar academic or service hour requirements, please contact your school counselor.
